  • MediaOps Teams With Boca Code To Launch “Engineer the Change” Scholarship Supporting Disadvantaged Minorities in the South Florida Tech Community

MediaOps Teams With Boca Code To Launch “Engineer the Change” Scholarship Supporting Disadvantaged Minorities in the South Florida Tech Community

    Engineer the Change

MediaOps funds two full scholarships annually for Boca Code’s Software Engineering Career Course to help diversify the local skilled talent pool and create a more inclusive tech industry.

BOCA RATON, Fla., March 2, 2021 — MediaOps, the place to tell your story in the most powerful way, is teaming up with Boca Code, which offers adults comprehensive training in software development using real projects for real companies, to offer two “Engineer the Change” scholarships to help foster diversity in the local tech industry and empower individuals from underserved communities.

MediaOps will sponsor two full scholarships annually to students from disadvantaged communities interested in pursuing a career in the tech industry. The scholarships, each valued at $10,000.00, will enable students to enroll in the flagship Software Engineering Career Course at Boca Code, an immersive coding school that provides in-depth technical training.

“The ‘Engineer the Change’ scholarships bring together two themes that are important to the MediaOps team and to me personally. The first is supporting the South Florida tech community on its journey to becoming a world-class destination for tech startups and tech professionals. The second is helping individuals from disadvantaged communities acquire the skills they need for a successful career in the tech industry,” said Alan Shimel, CEO/founder of MediaOps. “While the scholarship will help two students a year, we hope it will inspire other local companies to offer similar programs in support of these two worthy goals.”

Research shows a staggering lack of diversity in STEM fields, most noticeably within computer and engineering positions. It is a glaring workforce disparity that requires both recognition and responsibility from those at the highest levels in the tech world to create a more diversified and equitable workforce.

Boca Code is a new venture bringing an immersive, hands-on approach to helping adults acquire valuable tech skills by working on real projects for companies. It is the first of its kind in South Palm Beach County. Boca Code offers a wide range of courses taught by experts with real-world experience.

“We are excited for our partnership with MediaOps,” CEO of Boca Code Todd Albert said. “It is important to us that we seize every opportunity to help foster inclusivity within the tech industry, and the Engineer the Change scholarship is a great start to empowering disadvantaged minorities within the South Florida community to grow their technical skill set.”

    How To Apply

The “Engineer the Change” scholarships will be awarded to two deserving recipients on an annual basis. To be eligible, applicants must be over the age of 18 and be part of an underrepresented community (i.e. women, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans or other minority groups). To be considered, applicants will be required to submit an essay detailing how they can serve as a role model to other disadvantaged individuals hoping to acquire the skills to become successful tech workers, and what type of career in the tech industry they are hoping to pursue. While the idea is to help the South Florida tech community, applicants can apply from anywhere, as long as they include in their application essay why they are coming to South Florida to launch their tech career.

Submissions for the first scholarship for the Software Engineering session, taking place April 5-June 4, are now open. The deadline to apply is March 15. The second scholarship application process will open Aug. 1 for the session taking place Sept. 20-Dec. 3.

  • MediaOps Opens Nominations for the DevOps Dozen² 2020 Awards to Honor the Top Leaders and Innovators in the DevOps Community

MediaOps Opens Nominations for the DevOps Dozen² 2020 Awards to Honor the Top Leaders and Innovators in the DevOps Community

2020 DevOps Dozen AwardsThe DevOps Dozen awards are back for their 6th year, expanded to 24 award categories to highlight the most innovative and outstanding companies and individuals who have demonstrated their leadership and commitment to the DevOps community.

BOCA RATON, Fla., Sept. 16, 2020 —  MediaOps, the place to tell your story in the most powerful way, has opened nominations for the sixth annual DevOps Dozen awards, now through Oct. 15. This year’s awards include 24 categories in total, twice the number of awards in previous years.

There are a dozen awards in each of the two main sections of awards this year:

    • DevOps Dozen Tools and Services Awards: These vendor awards recognize the most innovative companies developing and selling outstanding solutions to empower developers, DevOps and IT operations teams. Each entry costs $250 to prevent ballot stuffing, irrelevant entries and to help cover costs. Vendors may nominate themselves.
    • DevOps Dozen Community Awards: Closer to the original vision of the DevOps Dozen, these awards celebrate organizations and leaders who have accomplished outstanding achievements and made significant contributions to the DevOps community. The nominees with the highest number of votes in each category will advance to the finals. Only one or two entries in each category will be allowed per nomination. There are no nomination fees in this category, but it is not open to commercial entities.

“We are very excited to expand the awards to cover both the commercial space and community this year,” said Alan Shimel, CEO of MediaOps. “In years past it was sometimes difficult to balance the commercial vendors with the outstanding contributions by community members as well. Now we have a section for each and we hope this will result in a better balance between commercial entities and the community heroes.”

    Important Dates and Deadlines

    • Nominations for all categories via public vote or vendor registration are open as of Sept. 16, 2020.

  • MediaOps Teams with Gary Berman to Add “CyberHero Adventures: Defenders of the Digital Universe” to Its Award-Winning Lineup of Video Series

MediaOps Teams with Gary Berman to Add “CyberHero Adventures: Defenders of the Digital Universe” to Its Award-Winning Lineup of Video Series

CyberHero Adventures - Gary Berman - Digital AnarchistHacking Victim Turned Cyber Advocate Gary Berman Joins MediaOps to Co-Produce and Distribute His Unique Show Highlighting Cyber and IT Thought Leaders Protecting the Public

Boca Raton, Fl – Sept. 14, 2020 —  MediaOps, the place to tell your story in the most powerful way, today announced it has teamed with hacking-victim-turned-cyber-advocate Gary Berman to co-produce and distribute the “CyberHero Adventures: Defenders of the Digital Universe” video podcast. The show will join MediaOps’ award-winning lineup of video programming including TechStrong TV, DevOps Unbound and CISO Talk, all on the Digital Anarchist platform.

“CyberHero Adventures: Defenders of the Digital Universe” is an educational and entertaining series based on interviews with cybersecurity and IT thought leaders who protect the public from cyber attacks. Berman conducts in-depth interviews with industry experts to discuss real-life cyber crime stories, anecdotes and lessons learned.

Berman was a victim of cyber criminals earlier in his career, when he ran his own marketing firm, which ended in the loss of his business. Berman pivoted from being a victim to becoming an advocate, and after a 25-year career in marketing, entered the cybersecurity field with a mission to protect others from suffering the life-altering consequences of being hacked. In each episode, he shines a light on all the unsung heroes who toil in anonymity to keep us safe at work, home and school.

As an advocate, Berman was challenged by the complexity of cyber technology, attempting to distill complicated technology information into a communications platform accessible not just to the cybersecurity community but also to the general public. With support from the tech community contributing real-life stories of cybercrime, Berman launched the cyber hero comics series. The “CyberHero Adventures: Defenders of the Digital Universe” show was launched from the comics.

“I am proud to join the world-class professionals at MediaOps, as the next step in accomplishing my mission. Together, we are creating a highly engaging, entertaining and informative show that will be the antidote to the ‘Zoomification’ of the cybersecurity and IT community,” said Berman.

“Gary brings a fresh, unique perspective to his cyber awareness mission. We look forward to working with him and making his show a must-watch for both the cyber community and civilians looking for sound cybersecurity advice,” said Alan Shimel, CEO of MediaOps. “Our mission is bringing quality programming to our ever-growing audience across our omniversal channels. The CyberHero Adventures video series is a great example of this.”

“CyberHero Adventures: Defenders of the Digital Universe” will be available via the Digital Anarchist network and streamed via TechStrong TV, which is available on the web at LinkedIn Live (DevOps.com page), Facebook Live (DevOps.com page), YouTube (DevOps TV channel), Techstrong.tv, DigitalAnarchist.com and the MediaOps community sites (DevOps.com, Security Boulevard and Container Journal). The show will also be available on the DevOps.com mobile app for iOS and Android and on TV via DevOps.com app for OTT channels on Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.  Episodes are available on-demand at Digital Anarchist, the next-gen streaming service for tech communities, which offers in-depth coverage on DevOps, cybersecurity, cloud-native and digital transformation, adding high-quality content on a regular basis.
